The enduring legacy of Marc Bolan
We're covering a lot of ground in this issue of M - two decades in fact. We bid goodbye to the Noughties in our roll call of industry milestones over the last ten years a decade that brought us legal downloading and the iPod, social media and the X Factor, to name a few. And we look ahead to the next decade, where our panel of key industry figures plan ahead with speculative optimism. Here at PRS for Music, we're ending the decade on a high note. The Online Music licence we have agreed with MySpace Music in the UK is excellent news for all music creators. The deal ensures that songwriters and composers whose audio tracks and video content is accessed via the new digital platform will be rewarded for their creative endeavours. We've also launched a nationwide campaign, the PRS for Music Heritage Award, which honours the role of pubs, clubs and other live music venues where legendary `first gigs' have taken place. The sites of Blur and Dire Straits' first gigs were the recipients of our inaugural Heritage Award plaques; inside the magazine, we ask for your suggestions for future deserving recipients. Elsewhere in M, we're delighted to be joined by songwriting great Gary Lightbody, as well as an array of music writing luminaries that includes the legendary Paul Morley and TV presenter Will Hodgkinson, who we visit on the set of Songbook series 3. A good 2010 to you all keep in touch with us throughout the new year.
