The winners included John Tavener for his liturgical work Ex Maria Virginie; Simon Holt in the Orchestral category for A Table of Noises; sound artist Mark Peter Wright for A Quiet Reverie, winner of the Sonic Art category; and Jason Yarde, who collected the inaugural award for Contemporary Jazz Composition for his work Rhythm and Other Fascinations. The British Composer Awards are presented by The British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors (BASCA) and sponsored by PRS for Music. This year's winners represent talent from a broad range of backgrounds, including singers, the Awards as an annual event.
