Media 10 Limited raise over £33,500 for Macmillan Cancer Support

What started as CEO Lee Newton offering to shave his hair to support colleague Gill Colafrancesco who was starting her chemotherapy treatment, has evolved into a series of fundraising events for Loughton based, Media 10 Limited.

Over 30 Media 10 employees joined Lee Newton in August to shave their hair for Macmillan Cancer Support. Having doubled their target of £10,000 to raise over £20,000 with the mass shearing, the company have continued their efforts to raise money.

Gill Colafrancesco, comments "The support I have received from Lee and the team since discovering I had cancer has been incredible, when Lee Newton knew that the chemotherapy would result in me losing my hair, without hesitation he offered to shave off his own hair, a remarkably selfless act as Lee always took great care of his hair. I have been overwhelmed by the number of friends and colleagues from Media 10 that took part in the head shaving they are all brilliant and also from the generosity of donations from friends, colleagues and business associates, the whole event has lifted the spirit of me and my family beyond belief"
Following the success of the hair shaving event, Media 10 also joined Macmillan's biggest fundraising event – the world's biggest coffee morning by holding their own coffee morning with home-made cakes on sale in the office.

Feeling inspired, the events team also arranged for a one day 100% Design takeaway event at the 100% Design Trade Exhibition at Earls Court. Raising over £7,000 the designer furniture charity sale, saw exhibitors generously donate items of furniture to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

This week, Lee Newton and Media 10 colleagues finally presented Macmillan with a cheque for £33,511.39 following their impressive fundraising activities.

Lee Newton comments "Originally I was going to be the only one shaving my hair off in support of Gill during her treatment, which is strange as I've spent most of my life trying to hide the bald patches. Once the word got out, I was amazed at how many of my fellow Directors and staff, joined in the cause and have made their own contributions: whether from shaving their hair, baking cakes or taking part in the 100% Design Take Away Sale. It has been truly incredible how much money we have raised, and in such a short amount of time."

Macmillan's local Fundraising Manager, Laura Bazzoni, comments: "We have been astounded by how much Media 10 have raised in such a short space of time. The employees have thrown themselves into fundraising to show their support to their colleague, Gill. We really can't thank Media 10 enough. Their efforts will help us to ensure that no one faces cancer alone. For example, the money they have raised could pay for one of our Macmillan Mobile Cancer Information Centres for an active month or it could pay for a Macmillan nurse for 165 days, helping people living with cancer and their families receive essential medical, practical and emotional support."
