21IHS london Ideal Homes for Heroes raises £110,000

The Ideal Home Show 2011 has raised a staggering £110,000 to help soldiers and their families, achieving an overall fundraising total of £212,000 since the Ideal Homes for Heroes Appeal launched in 2010. TV presenter and property expert Amanda Lamb, DIY SOS designer Julia Kendell, DIY SOS Electrician Billy Byrne, Celebrity gardener Tommy Walsh and Comedian Jason Manford – who are the celebrity supporters of the Ideal Homes for Heroes Appeal, alongside show ambassadors George Clarke and Diarmuid Gavin, took part in the event’s official Troops Day on 12th March 2011, to mark the launch of the 17 day fundraising campaign, for the second year. Visitors were treated to a dazzling display by the Band of the Royal Scots Guard as they marched into the arena together with performances by female acapella group The Lah De Dahs and the chart topping singing British trio: The Soldiers. HRH the Prince of Wales also visited the stand with Location Location Location presenter Kirstie Allsopp on the 17th March to sign a message of support for the campaign and our soldiers and congratulate fundraisers on the appeal to date. The Ideal Home Show also created an eye-catching fundraising stand with an imaginative use of recycled Army uniforms and military paraphernalia to raise awareness of the appeal and the work of ABF The Soldiers’ charity. The Soldiers’ Charity Chief Executive Major General Sir Evelyn Webb-Carter commented: “I am very grateful to Media 10 and all Ideal Home Show visitors for their support of the charity and this appeal. When it comes to soldiers, former soldiers and their families in need, we want to do what we can to make them more comfortable in their homes. Through our relationship with the Ideal Home Show, a phenomenal amount has been raised so far to help us continue in our efforts. We look forward to even greater achievements for this partnership over the next three years. Thank you!”
Proceeds from this year’s fundraising total come from donations made by the organisers who once again donated 50p from every ticket sold for the show to the appeal, combined with online and onsite donations from visitors, across the 17 days of the show raising a staggering £110,000. With this significant sum, the Ideal Homes for Heroes Appeal is on track to achieve the show’s target fundraising sum of £250,000 for 2011.

The next fundraising event for the appeal is happening at the Ideal Home Show Scotland, for a further five days between the 27th – 30th May, at the SECC in Glasgow and will then be taken to Ideal Home Show at Christmas, in London which launches this November from the 16th – 20th of November 2011 at London’s Earls court, which combined aim to raise a further £40,000. Lee Newton, Managing Director of Media 10, organisers of the Ideal Home Show commented: “The money raised from our ticket sales and by our visitors is a tremendous effort that recognises the needs of our returning armed forces across the British public. “Small changes and home adaptations make a real difference to the quality of life of people with disabilities and we are delighted to play a part in helping raise money for such a worthwhile project, and hope that our continued support can make a difference to many more people over the coming years." The Ideal Homes for Heroes campaign was launched at the 2010 Ideal Home Show in aid of The Soldier’s Charity to raise much needed money to fund grants for home improvements and mobility issues for soldiers. Since the campaign began, the appeal has raised a combined total from both the 2010 and 2011 events of £212,000, which has funded over 152 home adaptations to date, for those in need including World War 2 veteran Arthur Claridge (92) and Corporal Andy Reid (33) who was severely injured in Afghanistan. The support given to the152 beneficiaries is wide ranging and included home adaptations to support them remaining in their own homes, helping them to overcome hardship, and moving on from unemployment and homelessness. Thanks to such a positive response from the public and phenomenal success at each event, Media 10 are now looking to continue the partnership, and have set a new target to raise £1m through the Ideal Homes for Heroes Appeal, over the next three years. The Ideal Homes for Heroes Appeal will continue to help with vital home adaptations and improvements, general housing needs and the homelessness of those who have suffered injuries, including some severe, in Afghanistan and Iraq.
