100% Design celebrated with an array of show stopping brands, thought-provoking features and interactive experiences.
As the stand out event during London Design Festival during 18-21 September, the show highlighted and celebrated extraordinary creativity within design. Talks with 100% Design presented an unrivalled line-up of the industry’s biggest names across architecture and design whilst renowned brands and exciting emerging talent used the show as a platform to launch new products.
Highlights included Underground Vol.II where award-winning textile studio, Kirkby Design brought an original 1967 Victoria Line tube carriage to 100% Design as an exciting and immersive venue. The interiors of the tube were upholstered in Underground Volume II fabrics, a new collection of velvets, which recreate iconic moquette designs used for seating fabric across the underground from the 1930s to the present day.
A Sense of Finland presented the very best of Finnish furniture, products and lighting focused around sustainability and wellbeing within a specially built eco-log house. Voted the happiest country in the world for the second year running, A Sense of Finland allowed visitors to experience the sounds, sights, touch, smell and taste of Finland in the middle of London.
Another highlight for 2019 was Design Fresh – a celebration of outstanding breakthrough talent scouted at major UK design degree shows as well as at two editions of New Designers, with input from over 200 creative courses. Curated by Barbara Chandler, design editor at the London Evening Standard, 30 emerging designers were chosen for their explorative ideas and original work. This year there was a major emphasis on using waste as a valuable resource to create products.
Insta-Interiors focused on how we are increasingly inspired by the visual spaces we see on Instagram. Bringing together six leading industry creatives and designers, including 2LG, Matilda Goad, and Benjamin Kempton, each designer was invited to select 9 images from their personal Instagram and created a cameo set to see their images come to life in an ‘Instagrammable’ feature.
Part of Design London – Another Country unveiled new furniture pieces including an upholstered sofa, lounge chair and shelving unit. Gärsnäs presented furniture by Stockholm based design duo, Färg & Blanche. Design collective Jointed + Jointed presented seven new furniture designs, including pieces by two new young designers as well as pieces by the company’s founder Samuel Chan. Other exhibitors included Danish furniture companies, PP Mobler and True North Designs, as well as Getama who presented pieces by Hans J Wegner.
Other notable furniture highlights for 2019 include powerhouse of British design, Benchmark, who launched the Sage Collection of furniture by award-winning American architect David Rockwell. Within lighting, exciting new products were presented by Haberdashery, who launched the Introvert Extrovert and After Dark ranges for the first time in the UK.
A brand new exhibition space for 2019 was Detail London, which showcased the latest high-end contemporary soft furnishings and wall coverings from leading international design companies. Located within one of Olympia's lavish Victorian reception rooms, exhibitors included British brands, 17 Patterns and Graham & Brown, high-end professional French paint company Argile, Amsterdam based Studio Desimone Wayland as well as Glamora among others.
