Premier luxury event became a platform for strengthening partnerships between China and the UK.

 

Media 10 brought the largest exhibition of heritage and luxury British brands to Shanghai, launching the Best of British Show in October.

Set at the iconic Shanghai Exhibition Centre, the inaugural event attracted over 150 British brands and more than 18,500 Chinese trade and public visitors, media, and VIP guests to connect, learn, and strengthen partnerships between China and the UK.

Securing exclusive partnerships with British Airways and the Royal Mail, among many other respectable institutions and brands, Media 10 presented the very best of British consumables, top British fashion, design, food, wine, education, travel, technology, and innovation brands. In addition to high profile partnerships, the event is backed by the GREAT Campaign, the British Consulate-General Shanghai, the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA), and the Department for International Trade (DIT).

The timing of the show perfectly coincided with Xi Jingping’s announcement at the 19th National Communist Congress in Beijing that China was continuing to focus on “opening up” for business across the world. Best of British became a key platform for promoting exchange between China and the UK, introducing more British brands into the Chinese market and strengthening consumer understanding of offerings from the UK.

With trade & VIP visitors forming the core of the weekday exhibition, buyers visited Best of British to discover new products to introduce into the Chinese market.  Around 30% of trade visits led to potential new business, with the 50 exhibitors new to China estimating £4.9 million of projected sales to be generated in the 12 months following the exhibition.

Best of British offered Chinese visitors a thrilling discovery of leading brands from the UK, ranging from age-old favourites, such as Rolls Royce, MINI, Thomas Cook, and Dalmore Whiskey, to exquisite British brands new to China, including Johnstons of Elgin, the fine Scottish cashmere brand; Brooks England, the premium bicycle maker with more than a century of history; Deakin & Francis, the cufflink brand featured in the film Kingsman 2; and Boadicea the Victorious, the luxurious perfume brand of choice of supermodels Kate Moss and Gisele Bundchen. An exciting array of interactive, themed features also allowed visitors interested in British culture, fashion, design, and food to indulge in an immersive experience of British life. CBRE, the commercial real estate services and investment firm, even offered professional British investment advice at the event.

The first edition of the show not only provided premium British brands with the unique opportunity to tap into the world’s largest market for consumer goods, but also laid solid foundations for its next appearance in Shanghai in 2018.
